Gammarus
- Keystone species in running water ecosystems (structurally, functionally)
- Reproduction throughout the year, 50 offspring/female and month, life-span 1-2 years
- Many species, also several „neozoa“ (invasive species) in Europe, widely spread in the Northern hemisphere; also marine species, i.e. GamTox test with broad application
- Accepted species in ecotoxicology next to Daphnia magna/pulex (for lakes)
- Amphipods are standard test species for sediment assays (e.g. USA)
- Important shredder in POM-material cycling
- In situ tests possible, link to bioassessment data from biological water quality monitoring
Toxicity Test
LimCo International offers a low budget toxicity test with Gammarus spp. (in and ex situ) based on survival and behaviour (activity, feeding) with options to analyze specific biomarkers at the end of the exposures in cooperation with our partner laboratories. This test is a new and ecologically relevant and easy tool for water quality monitoring and assessment.
